HIVE MINDS
SPIRIT
How can bees and each one of us be agents of change? Can we think of ourselves as a swarm that, rather than producing a noisy buzz, is a sum of voices that becomes a dialogue? What if we build a hive of collective intelligence? Hive Minds invites us to connect ideas and think together about the present and sustainable future of the place we live.
Bees are good pollinators that contribute to the balance of ecosystems, promote crop diversity and food production. As a species, they also represent one of the best-known and most incredible forms of associativity that exist in nature. Their collective intelligence, the vocation for working together, and their remarkable social and architectural capabilities have earned the admiration of humans.
The beehive, composed of the harmonious and complex union of multiple hexagons, is the venue where this community spirit finds its natural environment. The hive seems to exist to be built by the collective character of the swarm (or group of bees) and to guarantee the group’s success and survival.
In a beehive, everyone has a conditional life since it is part of a whole to which it is both integrated and dedicated. According to the Belgian writer Maurice Maeterlinck, the bees’ driving forces are the future’s horizon and the community’s love, where the life of each bee, beyond all individuality, acquires meaning if it is part of the whole.
Given the situation of uncertainty in which we live, and the urgent need to reinvent ourselves as inhabitants of planet Earth, it is vital to develop methodologies and common spaces that help us to imagine possible and sustainable futures for all. Ways to dialogue together and rethink our collective intelligence to shape the new reality. Shapes that adapt to our bodies, but also to our ecosystems.
Hive Minds aspires to be a path towards this end.
